Join Us in Celebrating Children and the Arts in Virginia
A Statewide Initiative to Increase the Visibility of the Arts
In spring 2012, the cultural community in Virginia will celebrate the arts with performances, exhibitions, literary readings and films with the theme of Children and the Arts. These events will be presented as MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Children and the Arts.
All Virginia cultural organizations, children, artists, individuals, schools, art galleries, libraries and museums are invited to join this statewide celebration. Here’s how you can get involved:
Get in the communications loop by sending an e-mail to MINDS WIDE OPEN Statewide Coordinator Katie Shubert at ArtsVA2012@gmail.com:
Create at least one program with the theme Children and the Arts. Programs must be presented between March and June 2012 and should be a part of your organization’s regular season. There is no charge to participate. Your organization, however, will be responsible for funding the program and its local promotion, as there will be no designated grant funding through MINDS WIDE OPEN.
- Include the names and contact info (with email address) of people in your organization who should receive MINDS WIDE OPEN communications
- Join the listserve to receive updates (do this now even if you don’t have a designated program yet)
Help us spread the word about this important arts celebration:
- Place the MINDS WIDE OPEN logo on your website with a link to www.artsva.org (logos can be downloaded from the website)
- Include MINDS WIDE OPEN information and graphics in your promotional materials, especially your season brochure. Indicate your Children and the Arts program with a MINDS WIDE OPEN “button” logo
- Like MINDS WIDE OPEN: The Virginia Celebration Continues on Facebook by clicking “Like” at the top right of the page
- Make us one of your organization’s Facebook Page favorites. If you are the administrator of your own Facebook Page for your organization, you can “Add to my Page Favorites” in a link that is also in the top right menu. Simply select that and choose your page to help show your organization is a fan
- Always remember to use the Facebook “Share” button to post the MINDS WIDE OPEN Page, videos and more in your personal profile
Sign up for this exciting celebration today! Talk to your colleagues in schools, arts and cultural community and encourage them to participate.
Thanks to the Virginians for the Arts, Dominion, Community Foundation of Greater Richmond, and Virginia Tourism Corporation for their leadership gifts in generous support of MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Children and the Arts, and to Virginians for the Arts Foundation for serving as fiscal agent.
We realize that not everyone will have a website, season brochures or Facebook pages. This should not discourage you from participating. If you have any questions, please contact Statewide Coordinator, Katie Shubert at ArtsVA2012@gmail.org.
